The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The former head of state was sentenced of orchestrating a armed takeover in last fall and handed more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after fresh information emerged.

This included trying to remove his tracking device and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns
